Britney in REHAB February 28, 2007

Posted by Bertan in humor, media.

I know this has nothing to do with business or organization, but I was shocked to know that this star that we all hear about and either hate/love, checked herself in to rehab last week.. Yep, Britney Spears. They wanted to keep the location secret but of she was of course found, in California. Photos of her smoking and drinking were taken by the paparazzi.
One thing I found really interesting was, it apparently cost her around £40,000 to check herself into rehabitilation. Does that make any sense?? I don’t know maybe I am being naive but I feel that it should be a merit good funded by the government, or at least it should cost MUCH less than that to get your life back in order.
Another ridiculous but incredibly interesting rumor was that Britney shaved her head because Federline, her ex, threatened to get her hair tested for drug use, in order to gain custody of their sons. Another rumor is that Brit she went bald because she was suffering from terrible head lice, which is just gross.
Alright please don’t get me wrong, I have no interest in her life, but I just find it funny that the same girl who was claiming she was innocent and who was part of the mickey mouse club when she was young, ended up like this. Which goes to prove that star life is not that sweet.

Haha, I had heard she checked herself into rehab, but the shaving of your head is ridculous. As for your first comment, I think that the place she probably checked into was a first-class, hollywood star rehab facility and there maybe other facitilites in the US that are government sub-sidized. Who knows?

The rehab center was, in fact, a pretty posh facility called the Promises Rehabilitation Center. If you go on the website, http://www.promises.com, you can see how sweet it actually is (not to undermine those seeking help there.) The reason I somewhat mocked the situation is because she checked out the next day. Peace out $40,000!

But, I’m pretty sure that most HMOs cover rehab. So, for the non-celebraties, it is relatively stress-free to seek help for a dependency struggle.

I was watching the news and apparently Britney is suffering from post-partum depression. She did in fact have 2 children in 2 years, being dumped by her husband K-Fed only 2 months after giving birth to her second child. So whether or not she was partying with drugs and booze, the rumor is that this is what the underlying problem is.

She’s only one of many.. Lindsey Lohan, Ashley Olsen.. the list goes on.

Yes, the list does go on. It seems as though a majority of the stars all go through similar situations such as involvement with drugs, alcohol, and horrible relationship drama that we hear about in the tabloids and all over the news. It is almost as if stars live in an entirely separate world with their own culture. Their behaviors are so different from the majority. What makes their culture/behaviors so different? Do you think there is a pattern of these behaviors among stars because it is what is acceptable in their culture and not necessarily to everyone else? Do you think that the world of stars is like its own organization?

Mindless celebrity culture locked into a death spiral embrace with self-referential and self-sustaining media coverage drives me nuts.

This is from a political site, but if the numbers bear out, its just one more example of the beginning of the end for American democracy.

“NBC’s Nightly News devoted 14 seconds to Iraq compared to 3 minutes and 13 seconds to Anna Nicole. CNN referenced Anna Nicole 522% more frequently than it did Iraq. MSNBC was even worse — 708% more references to Anna Nicole than Iraq.

References to Anna Nicole and Walter Reed on cable networks on March 2:

FOX NEWS 121 10
MSNBC 96 84
CNN 40 53

The lop-sided coverage largely ignored many key developments in Iraq, including the sixth downing of a U.S. helicopter in the past three weeks, the allegations that a deputy Iraqi health minister was aiding a Shiite militia in its attacks against U.S. troops, and the death of four Marines.”
